The Benefits of Writing a Book and Self Publishing - Suzanne Doyle ...

?

We read and hear the word ?expert? all the time. But what does it really mean? If we want to know more about a certain topic, we usually consult an expert on the subject. Likewise, when we are considering hiring someone for a job ? whether it?s a doctor, a real estate agent or a chiropractor, we want the best person for the job: an expert.

Share your knowledge with the world

If you are an expert in something that means you can share your knowledge with others. There are many ways to do this. With the popularity of the Internet, the quickest way to share your expertise would be through social media. You can simply set up a Facebook page or a Twitter account and promote yourself as an expert in your field. However, the BEST way (and most credible way) to establish yourself as an authority figure in a particular field is by writing a book.

When you visit bookstores or Amazon, you probably wonder if you will ever see a book written by you on one of its bookshelves. Now more than ever, it is easier to turn that dream into reality. Self publishing has made it easy for first-time authors to break into the publishing world. Gone are the days when authors were at the mercy of publishers. Now, writing a book and publishing it as a conventional book or e-Book can be done in your own terms.

Now is the right time!

The problem that I hear from a lot of my students is that they feel that they need to do and achieve MORE in order to be considered an expert. I usually hear them say things such as: ?I?ll write my book when I get my PhD? or ?I am not an expert until I make six figures from my practice.? What these people fail to realize is that the best time to publish a book is NOW. The publishing industry is on the rise and more and more people are turning to books for expert advice. Your knowledge is valuable! If you will wait for the ?right time? to come then you just might miss the chance to become a bestselling author. What?s more, once you publish your book, you?ll be viewed as an expert! It?s the BOOK that makes you the expert in the eyes of your audience.

Why write a book?

Some of you are probably wondering what?s the point of writing a book and positioning yourself as an expert in your field anyway. There are plenty of reasons! For many expert authors, their main income does not even come from their practice or profession anymore. They can live off the sales and royalties that they get from their books combined with speaking engagements, coaching, consulting and more.

Having a published book can also bolster your existing business. If you work as a business consultant or coach for example, then writing a book can expose you to potential clients that you otherwise wouldn?t be able to reach. Being a published author will also give you an advantage over your competitors and allows you to charge a much higher rate. In the eyes of your potential clients, YOU are perceived as an expert simply because you?ve written a book. And if they have to choose between you and your competitor, they will invariably choose the published author.

Let?s not forget about the joy of simply sharing what you know with the world. Do you have a certain way of doing things that will help others? Do you have a system that can save people time or money? You NEED to get that message out to the world! If you have knowledge that you believe can help a great number of people then it would be a disservice to society if you do not get it out there. Just think of all the people who are looking for the kind of information that you can provide and who will benefit from it!

The next time you?re browsing on Amazon, wouldn?t you LOVE to see your book listed there? Can you imagine the level of pride and joy that you would feel at the moment when you can truly say that you are a published author? Self-publishing can turn that dream into reality.
