NFL survivor pools: Trust Luck, Peyton in Week 4

Last week, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos were Survivor Pool locks.

Hopefully you took our advice, and remain alive in your pools.

We hit on four of the five suggested picks and, unlike the first two weeks, it wasn?t really close.

This week, however, is significantly tougher and you may need a sweat towel to get through a few of the games. If you?re new to this feature, remember the guidelines: Avoid the dreaded divisional matchups, avoid road teams, and don?t get cute?like the people who didn?t take Seattle last weekend.

With that in mind, we continue our march to glory with the top five picks for Week 4:

1) Indianapolis Colts (road vs. Jacksonville Jaguars): I like this pick so much that it goes against two of my own guidelines. The Jaguars have one of the worst rosters in recent NFL history and it?s hard to imagine them winning a single game at this point. They go up against a team that physically dominated San Francisco on both sides of the ball last week. In a quarterback-driven league, I?ll go with Andrew Luck over Blaine Gabbert (or Chad Henne for that matter) every time. If you didn?t use Indy against Oakland in Week 1, this is a perfect spot to pick them.

2) Denver Broncos (home vs. Philadelphia Eagles): Can anyone stop the Denver passing game? If so, it surely won?t be the Eagles, who boast one of the least effective secondaries in the NFL. Peyton Manning will feast on Chip Kelly?s boys in front of his home crowd and it could get ugly early. As good as Michael Vick and Philadelphia?s offence has looked at times, they?ll be no match for a much-superior Broncos team. This pick certainly applies to those who used Seattle, instead of the Broncos in Week 3.

3) Kansas City Chiefs (home vs. New York Giants): This won?t be as easy as it looks on paper. The Chiefs should be good enough to handle New York, who are certainly better than they?ve shown through the first three weeks. But thanks to his years in the NFC East, Andy Reid has an extensive knowledge of the Giants and his team should be well prepared to shut down New York on both sides of the ball. Expect turnovers to be the story and Alex Smith to manage the game well enough to keep the Chiefs? undefeated season alive.

4) Cincinnati Bengals (road vs. Cleveland Browns): You saw what the Bengals defence did to Aaron Rodgers, right? This group is flat-out nasty and Brian Hoyer could be in for some real trouble one week after his breakout performance. The Browns will need another explosive performance on offence to stay close in this one. We like Marvin Lewis? team to win this divisional game, but it won?t be a total breeze.

5) Washington Redskins (road vs. Oakland Raiders): We?re going out on a limb here. How can anyone bank on Washington after their horrific 0-3 start? Well, we like Robert Griffin III to bounce back against a thin Raiders secondary and Oakland may have trouble moving the ball if Terrelle Pryor (who suffered a concussion late in Week 3) is not cleared to play. Betting against Matt Flynn seems like an easy way to last another week.
