I'm not sure what took us so long, but recently we decided it was time to try and recreate this famed dish. Between Gregory's fuzzy memory of the particulars of the broth and my vegetarianism, what we ended up with was not exactly like his dad's. But the soft, chewy noodles and the garlicky-gingery flavors in the broth met with Gregory's approval. As for me, I gained a new go-to comfort food.
Despite being handmade, the noodles are really quite easy to make. No pulling is necessary; you just roll up the dough and cut it with a knife. Use a generous amount of flour to ensure they don't stick. Some people blanch the noodles separate from the broth, and you can do that if you prefer a more clear soup. However, Gregory remembered his father's version being more thick, so I simply cooked the floury noodles in the same pot. The garnishes ? green onions, ground sesame seeds, Korean red pepper flakes ? are essential, and if you like, you can spice it up even more with a swirl of yangnyeomjang, or korean seasoning sauce.
For the noodles:
1 1/2 cups flour, plus more for dusting
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup cold water
For the soup:
2 quarts vegetable stock (can substitute chicken stock)
1/2 onion, sliced
2 scallions
6 cloves garlic, peeled
2-inch knob of ginger, peeled and thickly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 medium potato, peeled and cut into half-circles
1 medium Korean zucchini (hobak) or 1 regular zucchini, cut into half-circles
For the garnish:
1-2 scallions, green part only, sliced
1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds, coarsely ground
1/4 teaspoon gochugaru
About 2 tablespoons yangnyeomjang - korean seasoning sauce (optional)
Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the oil and work it in with your fingers. Make a well in the center, add the water, and stir to form a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and firm. Cover the ball of dough with the bowl or plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, bring the vegetable stock to a boil. Add the onion, scallions, garlic, ginger, salt, and potato. Reduce heat to a simmer and cover the pot.
On a well-floured surface, roll the dough to about 2mm thick. Rub both sides with flour and fold it 4-5 times to make it easier to cut. Using a knife, cut it into strips about 1/4 inch wide. Gently toss the noodles with flour to separate the strands and prevent them from sticking together.
Taste the soup and season with additional salt, if necessary. Add the zucchini to the pot and simmer until tender. Then add the noodles and simmer a couple minutes until tender.
Serve garnished with scallions, sesame seeds, and gochugaru. If serving with yangnyeomjang, place it on the side so diners can add to taste.

Sony faced a setback in its campaign to control what software can run on its PlayStation 3 after hackers published one of the cryptographic keys that forms the core of the security scheme locking down the game console.
The so-called LV0 key, released by a crew calling itself "The Three Musketeers," grants access to the one of the most sensitive parts of the PS3. Its availability should make it easier for hackers and modders to work around restrictions Sony places on the console. The key can be used to decrypt future security updates Sony issues for the console and to incorporate those changes into custom firmware packages not authorized by the Japan-based game maker. Sony has long discouraged the use of custom firmware by, among other things, blocking consoles that use them from connecting to the PlayStation Network.
The Three Musketeers said they discovered the LV0 key some time ago and only published it after a separate hacking group was using the code to build and sell its own custom firmware called BlueDiskCFW. Their post appears to be available here.
"You can be sure that if it wouldn?t have been for this leak, this key would never have seen the light of day," the group wrote in a note accompanying the key, according to a post published on Tuesday to PlayStationLifeStyle.net. "Only the fear of our work being used by others to make money out of it has forced us to release this now."
Release of the key is only the latest attack on a security regimen that many PS3 users took as an affront to their self-proclaimed what they argued is their right to use the console as they saw fit. Early efforts to seize control from Sony included PSJailbreak, which was a USB stick that allowed games to be fully installed to, and played from, the system's included hard drive. In late 2010, a group calling itself fail0verflow described ways work through the PS3's various security levels, which include a chain of trust, a hypervisor, and signed executables. The group ultimately located the ECDSA signature, a private cryptographic key the console uses to authorize high-level operations.
Working independently of the group, hacker George Hotz soon matched the fail0verflow feat by discovering and publicly releasing the metldr keys that could be used to trick the system into running unauthorized programs. Sony?sued the New Jersey-based Hotz over the disclosure, but eventually agreed to drop the controversial lawsuit in exchange for promises he would curtail all future attempts to unlock the game console.
It remains unclear just how damaging the key's release will be to Sony's attempts to stop the running of pirated games and other types of unauthorized software on the PS3. Nate Lawson, a cryptographer and the principal of the Root Labs security consultancy, said the disclosure represents a setback for Sony in its attempt to control what end users can and can't do with the console.
"They're going to have to depend on obfuscation as their primary security measure to keep people from decrypting their updates," he told Ars. "It's a cat-and-mouse game that's now more closely in the favor of the attackers. But Sony has plenty of things they can still do. It's just another link in the chain."

Richard Dennis, 55, was born in Long Beach, Calif., and passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.
He spent 13 years in Bakersfield, Calif., before he moved to Red Bluff, Calif., where he graduated from Red Bluff High School. The family then moved to Mineral in Northern California.
His first job was harvesting Christmas trees with his brother. This was one of the best times of his life.
Years later, Richard moved to Ventura, Calif., where he established his career as a painting contractor. While he lived there, he enjoyed playing golf with his brothers or enjoying a barbecue with his family.
He was so successful he was able to move to Tennessee with his wife and purchase their first home. Rich liked working on his property and riding his Kaboda tractor with his dog and cats running beside him.
Fishing was also one of his favorite past times while having a cold one. He loved the ocean so much he moved to Florida to look for warmer weather and sport fishing.
He bought a ranch and a boat. His interest in sports fishing and took him on trips as far away as the Florida Keys, Venezuela and Aruba.
Due to an illness in the family, he left the East Coast and moved back to California to be with his parents.
The last few years of his life, he enjoyed visiting his favorite brother, Ted and sister-in-law, Sandy in Arroyo Grande. He helped them restore two of their homes.
During this time, he enjoyed partying with them, going to restaurants, ocean views and festivals on the Central Coast.
Rich is survived by his mother, Colinette; brothers John, Mark, Ted, Dave and Tim; son, Patrick; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, John; and brother, Steve.

Both friends ? like many immigrants around the globe ? figured they'd have careers abroad, returning home much later. They were part of the classic brain drain in which human capital flows from developing to developed nations.
But as they began college in the mid-2000s, the Brazilian economy was starting to boom, with a rising middle ? and consuming ? class. Indeed, by 2009, when Rio won the bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, Brazil was an economic magnet for investment and "brain gain" migration. It was no longer a place to flee.
Now, not only is the Brazilian diaspora reconsidering its exile, but educated Europeans, fleeing economic recession, are flocking here.
Orofino and Mr. Lago returned in 2011 and started a nongovernmental organization ? Meu Rio (My Rio) ? to foster citizen promotion of transparency and good government in this era of explosive and lucrative growth in Rio.
"I saw the way that France's public services work, [and] for the first time in my life I experienced what was possible," says Lago, who studied at Sciences Po in Paris. "I thought, we have to fight for that in Brazil."
As Meu Rio opened its doors, Portuguese engineer Francisco Cruz saw firms around him downsizing as projects dried up. So he left his job in Portugal to relocate in Rio, which was drawing up blueprints for stadiums, bridges, and tunnels.
It was "riskier to stay in Portugal with a job than to move to Brazil without one," says Mr. Cruz, who got his first employment interview on his second day here and within a month was on the job at a firm designing Rio's bus transit system for the Olympic Games. The firm now is bidding on an Olympic Park project.

I rarely wear make up but when I do, I have to use a concealer since one of the things I first notice on my skin is my dark spots and blemishes. Covering them up is good but I think a much better way is cover them up and heal them at the same time.?Tea tree oil is a great product to use to heal blemishes in which this concealer has.?
Packaging wise this comes in a tube packaging with a doe tip applicator. The color I bought is natural which is great if you have fair to medium skin tone.?The product itself is just right since its not too thick nor too light. It does dry out a bit fast so you have to blend this well in your problem areas to avoid product build up which leads up to cakey look.?
Its quite cheap which is great if you are a student or you have a budget. This is retailed at 80php (approx 1.94USD)?
I've tried this on a blemish I had a couple of days prior to this post and as of the moment the blemish had healed. But just a reminder that everyone is different so the effectiveness of this product may be different from mine to yours okay?

A woman working as a live-in home health aide in Ocean County was arrested at Kohl's in Toms River after police responded to a shoplifting call and discovered the woman had random jewelry including New York Police Department rings wrapped up in her purse.
Toms River Police are hoping to track down the owners of 57 pieces of jewelry believed stolen by the woman, 33 year-old Joyce Ababio of Ghana, Africa.
Though Ababio was using a Bronx address, she was using multiple aliases and working as a home health aide in Whiting, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
Mastronardy said the health agency that employs the woman is cooperating with police, and investigators are hoping to track down additional owners of the stolen jewelry.
?We responded to a shoplifting call at Kohl?s, from security officers, on a call that she had shoplifted clothes and jewelry,? Mastronardy told Patch Wednesday.
Toms River Police Officer Frank Lauria responded to the call at 7 p.m. Monday, and found loss prevention staff had detained the woman, who had no form of identification on her.
However, her purse was allegedly full of jewelry wrapped in paper towels, said the police chief.
Police began sorting through the items and found a NYPD and a Xavier High School rings that she claims all belonged to a relative in Africa, Mastronardy said.
The NYPD ring had a badge number, and Det. Brian Lomer tracked down the owner after calling the NYPD, Mastronardy said.
?It had the badge number engraved on it, we tracked it down to a retired police officer, who retired in 1970,? Mastronardy said. The retiree is now a Whiting resident and is one of the clients Ababio was working for, he said.
Det. Lomer is working to track down the owners of the other pieces of jewelry.
Mastronardy said the investigation found that Ababio was using multiple aliases, and had identification under numerous names: Akosua Oforiwaa, Faustina Abebio and Joyce Abebio are among the known aliases.
Officer Lauria and Det. Lomer discovered she has been in the area since April working as a health care worker for the elderly.
ICE was contacted and she is being held on no bail in the Ocean County jail. Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Det. Lomer at 732-349-0150 ext. 1217.
Mastronardy urged residents who have home health care aides to ?take necessary precautions and secure your valuables.?
