Needed: A SEO company review site

You know what's missing in this world?

A website where you can list an SEO company you've worked with and make a review of whether they did you any good.

A bit like Tripadvisor, but called something like SEOadvisor.

I can't think of another industry where you basically hand them ?1000s and they do stuff and they won't tell you anything but "Be patient, these things take months," and at the end of the year when nothing has happened, you don't get your money back.

Actually I can think of another industry. It reminds me of homeopathic medicine.

And just like 'Tripadvisor' it will be open to blackmail and corruption.......

So I'm in for starting it...Anyone else?

Gawd, it would be brilliant. Those companies would really have to make a special effort to make a difference if they thought that future clients would be able to get access to their actual results.

They've had it their own way long enough.

I agree - we've had nothing but bad experiences with out-of-house SEO agencies.

My friend asked me to look at the performance of his chosen out of house agency over a year.
Ranking decreased, no change to on-page factors, I discovered just 2 new backlinks from less than credible websites and the chosen keyword they wanted to target had <10 traffic potential.

All of this charged at ?2,000 per month, with an additional ?1,000 report summary per month.

Wonderful.

There are so many cowboys out there.

People Per Hour have reviews of work done - search for SEO and pick UK flags and read the reviews. Maybe that is a better option?

I can recommend a couple of good firms, although they will not be cheap. Both in the UK.

Not sure it would work anyway, see if anyone can spot any genuine good reviews on the Review Center section below (bit like 'Where's Wally' but alot harder!):

Markets close lower on weak U.S GDP data

The Toronto stock market closed lower today, with nearly all sectors down in response to lower-than-expected U.S. GDP numbers.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 109.31 points, or less than one per cent of its value, at 12,220.20 at the end of the trading day on Friday.

The base metals sector saw the largest decline of 2.05 per cent following a strong week for the metals, mining and gold.

Oil fell 64 cents to $93 a barrel in New York.

The loonie gained 0.38 of a cent to 98.34 cents US.

The drops followed reports from the U.S. government that its gross domestic product grew only 2.5 per cent in the first quarter of this year ? economists had expected a rate of as high as three per cent.

CIBC World Markets chief economist Avery Shenfeld said deep public sector cuts were responsible for the slower pace. "While this wasn't a weak quarter, it wasn't the bang up start to the year we had hoped for, and the signals from March suggested that we will only decelerate from here into the spring trimester," Shenfeld said.

Peter Morici, an economist and professor at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business, says that several factors, including as a surge of Chinese exports onto American storeshelves and weakening demand for U.S. products in recession-torn Europe, will contribute to the GDP slowdown. "Most forecasters expect growth to slow to less than two per cent in the second quarter and to remain below three per cent through the end of 2014," Morici said.

The New York Stock Exchange also closed down 18.96 points, or less than a quarter of one per cent, at 9,169.90, after several companies, including Amazon.com, released weak earnings. The online retailer reported net income declined in the first three months of the year even though revenue increased 22 per cent.

The NASDAQ fell 10.72 points to 3,279.26, while the the Dow Jones Industrial dipped slightly during the day, dropping about seven points, before before eventually moving up 11.75 points to sit at 14,712.55 at closing.

More than 1,000 suits against Nuvaring to go to trial this fall

A NuvaRing contraceptive. (Sandy Huffaker/Getty)Rachel Lietzke Payne started using Nuvaring in 2008, when she was a 20-year-old college student. The contraceptive device appealed to her because it was easy to use. Birth control pills have to be taken every day, but Nuvaring, which came onto the market in 2001, is inserted into the vagina and removed each month?and is just as effective at preventing pregnancy.

One Monday in October of 2010, more than a year after she first began using the vaginal ring, Payne met her father for a standing lunch date at Buffalo Wild Wings in Casselberry, north of where they lived in Orlando. When she and her dad walked out of the restaurant, Payne suddenly fell ill and spat up quarter-size chunks of blood onto the cement.

Payne was rushed to the hospital, where she spent 10 days being pumped with anti-coagulants to thin her blood. She was diagnosed as having developed a blood clot in her lung, a condition that could have been fatal. ?It took them a while to figure out that it was blood clots because I was 22 at the time,? said Payne, who is now a married 25-year-old aspiring air traffic controller with a toddler son. She was also a non-smoker, fit, and had no family history of blood clots, all potential risk factors.

But the doctors landed on what they believed might have caused the clotting: the Nuvaring.

Payne is now one of more than 1,000 women suing Merck & Co?the pharmaceutical company that manufactures the birth control?in a federal district court in Missouri. They allege that the company?s device caused them to suffer blood clots?in a few cases, fatal ones?the risks of which they say they were inadequately warned about.

The suits are the latest in a pricey legal backlash over a variety of hormonal contraceptives that have come to the market in the past 10 years. Thousands of women sued over the Ortho Evra patch, citing studies that showed a higher blood clot risk compared to traditional birth control pills, costing Ortho McNeil, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, millions of dollars. And as of 2012, more than 10,000 suits were filed against Bayer, the makers of Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills, which has set aside more than $1.5 billion to settle claims against them.

Roger Denton, the lead counsel for the multi-district litigation against Nuvaring in Missouri, said he thinks the case could be as lucrative for his clients as Bayer?s litigation over Yaz and Yasmin. (Bayer has settled for an average of $216,000 with each plaintiff in that case.)

Hormonal contraceptives inhibit ovulation by releasing a combination of estrogen and progestin. While earlier iterations of progestin have shown only a slight increase in blood clot risk, recent studies have shown that newer forms of progestin?called third- and fourth-generation progestins, which were developed in the 1990s and 2000s?are associated with higher rates of blood clotting among women who take them compared to second-generation iterations of the hormone.

In fact, more than a dozen studies conducted over more than a decade have shown that women taking contraceptives containing a third-generation progestin?such as that used in Nuvaring and some birth control pills?have a 1.4 to 4 times higher risk of developing blood clots than women on contraceptives containing second-generation progestin.

The studies include a recent one funded by the FDA that tracked the health records of more than 835,000 women, found that those who used the vaginal ring were more likely to experience venous thrombosis than women who took oral contraceptives. But the researchers warned that the finding is ?new and raises concern,? and ?needs to be replicated in other studies.?

A handful of other studies, however, have shown no increased risk. Overall, the risk is still very low, with only around six to 10 out of 10,000 women developing blood clots over a year.

The plaintiffs in the Nuvaring case say it's not just the hormone in the device that caused their blood clots, but also the delivery system. Unlike other forms of birth control, Nuvaring dispenses hormones directly into the bloodstream, which the plaintiffs' expert witness argues could cause "spikes" of hormones that make women more susceptible to blood clots. There's currently no large study to back up that claim.

Some experts, however, warn the results of the studies conducted are being overblown by the media and trial lawyers, and may be scaring women away from effective birth control. More than 20 international researchers published an open letter in the Journal of Family Health and Reproductive Planning earlier this month saying the media and attorneys are creating a ?scare? that is not based on adequate research and could create more harm than good. They argue that large database studies, such as the one funded by the FDA, can be inaccurate because they don?t take into account all the confounding variables, such as obesity, that could affect blood clotting.

The letter notes that third- and fourth-generation hormonal contraceptives overall contain a very low risk of blood clots, and that more studies are needed before that risk can be determined. Overall, it notes, about four to six additional women out of every 10,000 on the newer forms of birth control would suffer a blood clot compared to women taking the older form of birth control. The risk goes up dramatically for pregnant women: 29 per 10,000 pregnant women develop a blood clot, meaning that the risks of unintended pregnancy are far greater than that of any hormonal birth control on the market.

The plaintiffs in the Nuvaring case say Merck did not adequately test or label the Nuvaring product to warn of these risks. Merck has disputed this, saying the company is confident its product is safe, and that it followed U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for its packaging.

The company was awarded a judicial victory last week, when a judge in New Jersey threw out seven separate suits against Nuvaring, saying the plaintiffs did not prove that Nuvaring was the cause of their blood clots. New Jersey courts have tougher standards for suing an FDA-approved product than the federal court system, however, where some of the more than 1,000 suits face trial beginning in October.

?We are confident the company has provided appropriate and timely information about Nuvaring to consumers and the medical, scientific and regulatory communities,? Lainie Keller, a spokeswoman for Merck, said in a statement. ?We remain confident in the efficacy and safety profile of Nuvaring, and will continue to always act in the best interest of patients.?

But Denton, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs, said he?s sure his cases in the district court won?t be dismissed.

?That?s what all these drug companies say,? Denton said. ?'It?s good enough for the FDA, that?s the end of the story.? But under our law that doesn?t matter. The jury decides.?

Thinking About Self Improvement? Try These Tricks! - ProjectPB ...

Improving your life through personal development can make you feel more confident and capable. You should start by learning more about self improvement to realize the true potential of this approach. Some of the advice you?ll find below might be just what you need to kick off your self improvement routine.

Perhaps you have set high goals for yourself and keep failing to attain them. If this is the case, it is a good idea to stop and think why. Do some research online for examples of goals and ideas that are similar to yours, then compare your own goals to your findings. This could illuminate a problem with the feasibility of your goals, your technique for achieving such goals, or even simply not allowing the time necessary to complete them.

Avoiding decisions means missing opportunities in the arena of personal development. Even if your knowledge is not what it could be, have the courage to make choices. Your good instincts will develop through your successful decisions. Bad decisions have value though because they are experiences that teach lessons. When you make the incorrect decision, learn from this, and make sure that it never happens again.

TIP! Mistakes cannot be avoided, this includes going off of your diet. Stress hurts your body as much as a large slice of high calorie pie, so take it all in stride.

Are you having a hard time finding that special someone? Think about searching online. Some research shows that forty percent of those finding their dating partners are using the Internet. Like those cheesy eHarmony commercials say, the love of your life could be just a click away. Of course, both websites have their disadvantages, but they are worth a try.

Becoming more healthy is an important part of developing personally. It is vital that you maintain motivation to eat well and exercise regularly. If you feel healthy, then you will always be at the top of your game, which makes it easier to meet your other self improvement goals.

Seek out new challenges. When you face a challenge, you can find more possibilities in life. You may learn something new or develop a new skill. You might even aspire to reach a goal that no one has reached before. Look for your own thing to do, instead of accomplishing things people have already done.

TIP! You do not need to be dealing with unneeded stress. Stress is a cycle; when you over-react to a stressful situation, it only causes further stress.

Being selfless is a big step in self improvement. There are times when you may have to sacrifice something and simply care for someone else. Being able to sacrifice for others and being able to get fulfillment, will help you develop into a more well-rounded person.

On the road to self improvement, treat your body with respect. Get regular exercise and eat a healthy diet. If you feel sick, see your doctor to find out what the problem is so it can be corrected. Listen to what your body has to say. Doing so will enable your body to function efficiently down the road. Ignoring your body?s signals will only hurt you in the long run.

Determine the things that are vital to you, and be sure to focus on these things. Personal development involves focusing on the important things in life while allowing negativity and unimportant matters to drift past.

TIP! An important new trait called sexual capitol is currently being researched. This doesn?t mean you need to use your sexuality as a means of getting the results you desire.

Create a self improvement plan by determining what your personal values are. Focus on those areas first to make the positive changes that are most important to your happiness. Focus on positive aspects to improve. These aspects should mesh with your values. By doing this, changes that you choose to make will be much easier to adhere to.

Check up on how you are doing by staying organized. Take your major goals, and break them down into small, manageable components. You can then achieve each of these minor goals more quickly. Use a daily planner or a dedicated journal to keep track of changes in your personal development.

Let your personal principles guide your personal development. Everyone has beliefs that are central to their sense of self. Use your faith in these principles to drive your faith in yourself. If your goals are grounded by your principles, you?ll be more consistent in pursuing them.

TIP! Keep track of your progress and learn to organize yourself. You may find it easier to achieve your goals if you break them down into smaller components.

You can teach yourself how to deal with tough situations without getting overly emotional. Come up with methods that will help relieve your stress and remain calm when problems pop up. Learning to breathe deeply upon command can give you back your sense of control.

You may achieve encouraging personal development results by trying out just a few of the preceding suggestions. Self improvement takes plenty of work. That work is easier to do when you are assisted by a little bit of good advice.

To be the best you can be means hoping others share in your good fortune. Often the negative thoughts projected on others can boomerang and come back onto you. The idea here is that you should act toward others with a positive attitude. Focus on the positive energy within you and keep the negative feelings from pulling you into an undesirable place.

TIP! Treat yourself right by respecting your body. If your body is telling you that you are hungry, thirsty, etc.

Knowing what Self Improvement can and cannot do for you takes time to figure out. However, by reading great articles such as this one, you can acquire some great advice about Self Improvement. Take your time and read through all of the provided information so you can absorb it and use it all when needed.

Cheat on your iOS or Android device with this Blackberry 10 OS tour

The BlackBerry Z10 is now attainable on three outta the four big US carriers, leading many to wonder what a BB10 phone would be like. Well, if you haven't had a chance to fondle the handset in-store, Heins & Co's got another way for you to (somewhat) experience the OS through its "glimpse" website. Load it up in the browser of your iOS or Android device, and it'll take you through a linear tour of some of the gestures and ways to multitask, as well as show you the BlackBerry Hub, BBM and Time Shift camera feature. It's far from a full emulation, but at least you'll be a little more informed at the end of it. Point your portable's browser at the source link to see what we mean.

Public Views on Immigration Reform Underscore the GOP's Conundrum

gty immigration protest jef 130403 wblog Public Views on Immigration Reform Underscore the GOPs ConundrumPublic Views on Immigration Reform Underscore the GOPs Conundrum

Nearly six in 10 Americans support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, but with Republicans firm in their opposition by a wide margin - a challenge for a party torn between reflecting the views of its base and seeking to broaden its appeal.

With negotiations in Washington proceeding, 57 percent in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll support the most contentious part of immigration reform, a process by which illegal immigrants may gain citizenship. Two other elements - stricter border control and more visas for highly skilled workers - win broader backing, from 80 and 72 percent, respectively.

See PDF with full results, charts and tables here.

Partisan and ideological divisions on a path to citizenship remain vast and essentially unchanged in recent months. Democrats support the idea by a wide 73-25 percent; independents by a majority 58-39 percent. Republicans oppose it, 60-35 percent - numerically a new low in support in three ABC/Post polls since last November, albeit just by 2 percentage points.

Similarly, 78 percent of liberals and 59 percent of moderates favor a citizenship process; that falls to 42 percent of conservatives, including 37 percent of "very" conservatives.

Tellingly, a path to citizenship is backed by 69 percent of nonwhites, including 80 percent of Hispanics and 67 percent of blacks - groups that overwhelmingly favored Barack Obama in his successful re-election campaign. That falls to 51 percent of whites, who preferred Republican Mitt Romney by 20 points.

There's also a sharp generational break in this poll produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates: Adults younger than age 40 - a group that decisively favored Obama over Romney in the election - back a path to citizenship by 67-30 percent. Support drops to a bare majority, 51 percent, among those 40 and up, a majority of whom voted for Romney .

Those differences underscore the challenges facing Republican Party leaders: Stay loyal to the policy preference of their party faithful and core support groups including whites, older adults and conservatives, at the risk of clinging to an inadequate support base; or seek to appeal to groups such as Hispanics, younger adults and moderates, at the risk of alienating the party's core.

BORDERS and VISAS - Two other issues in the debate, as noted, are far less divisive. Substantial majorities overall and across groups support stricter border control and a more lenient visa program for skilled workers alike.

Views on skilled workers, notably, show no partisan divisions at all. Support for an expanded program for skilled workers declines among blacks, to 56 percent. It's supported by larger majorities in basic demographic and political groups ranging from a low of 65 percent (of Midwesterners) to a high of 90 percent (among Hispanics).

Hispanics are at the other end of the spectrum on increased border security; 61 percent support it, a low among groups, compared with 93 percent among Republicans.

Overall views on a path to citizenship and border security are essentially unchanged compared with ABC/Post polls earlier this year and in late 2012, but far higher than they were in a differently phrased question in an ABC/Post poll in 1984. (The question on visas - specifically, allowing more highly skilled individuals from other countries to live and work in the United States - is a new one.)

Bipartisan groups in the Senate and House are expected to unveil their proposals for an immigration reform bill shortly, building on an agreement between labor and business representatives on the contours of a new "guest worker" visa program. The legislation is expected to include a path to citizenship, stricter border security and more visas for high- and low-skilled workers alike.

Work on the issue in Congress already has paid one dividend: An ABC/Post poll last week found favorable views of the Congress jumping to 56 percent among Hispanics, up by 21 points from November 2011 and the only group in which it reaches majority popularity. Again the risks, particularly to the GOP, are of backlash from its base if immigration reform goes forward - and backlash from others if it doesn't.

METHODOLOGY - This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by landline and cell phone March 27-30, 2013, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 1,014 adults. Results have a margin of sampling error of 3.5 points. The survey was produced for ABC News by Langer Research Associates of New York, N.Y., with sampling, data collection and tabulation by SSRS/Social Science Research Solutions of Media, Pa.

A switchboard operator at the base confirmed to Reuters that a lockdown was in effect, but gave no details. A spokesman at the base said he could not immediately confirm that there had been a shooting.

According to?the Fox News?account, which cited an unnamed base spokesman, it was not immediately known if there were any casualties.

Mary Trotman, a spokesperson for the FBI in?Louisville, said two agents had been dispatched to?Fort Knox?to assist with the investigation.

Trotman said the shooter or shooters had not been apprehended to her knowledge. She had no further details on the incident.

Fort Knox, near?Louisville, is home to more than 40,000 U.S. military personnel, family members and civilian employees.

In February, local media reported that a soldier and his wife died of gunshot wounds at their home on the base in what the?Army?said appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute.

Wednesday's incident came less than two weeks after a U.S. Marine shot two colleagues to death at the Marine Corps base in?Quantico,?Virginia, before killing himself.
