Sun Valley Online | Photos & Video | Arts, Music & Entertainment ...

All community thespians from ages 5-75, are invited to audition for the world famous Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "The King and I" this Thursday, May 17 from 3-6pm and again on Saturday, May 19 from 11am-2pm.? Auditions will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Sun Valley Road upstairs in the sanctuary.? There will be a sign-in desk as you arrive with an audition form and upcoming rehearsal schedule (rehearsals begin at the end of August).? The musical show will run at the nexStage Theater from October 18-21---please do not audition if you have serious conflicts during late summer and early fall!!? Auditioners will be required to sing simple scales and a few bars from "King and I" songs solo and with a small group.? Easy dance movements and reading from script sides will also be part of the audition process.? Sides will be available for perusal as you sign in, not ahead of time.? We are very relaxed and like to have fun at auditions; all abilities are welcome!? R.L. Rowsey is the Director, Dick Brown is the Musical Director and Dennis Rexroad is the Choreographer.? The show is based on the true story of an English widow who travels with her son to Siam in 1862 to tutor the King's many children and wives in Western "scientific" ways.? Though culture clashes abound, the two form a deep friendship and respect for one another.? The show is full of love, humor and poignancy...and fantastic songs and music.? "The King and I" is part of the Family Main Stage program from St. Thomas Playhouse, a performing arts organization for the whole community.
