(AP) ? Ann Romney says while she and her husband have never had financial woes, they do know what it's like to struggle.

The wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says her battle with multiple sclerosis has been at times a cruel teacher.

In a joint interview with her husband on NBC's "Meet the Press," she says criticism that they lack empathy for the troubles of others is ridiculous. She says their lives have always been devoted to people who are struggling more than they are.

Ann Romney cites testimony from people at the GOP convention who spoke of how her husband helped them with ailing relatives and other problems.

At the Democratic convention, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said the Romneys didn't know how good they've had it.
