Co-op To Create 3,000 Jobs In Legal Sector
The Co-operative Group is to create 3,000 new jobs in the legal sector through a continued expansion in the range of services it offers.
The group announced that the jobs will be based at Co-operative Legal Services, which it said will create the largest consumer law business in the country.
Group chief executive Peter Marks said that over the next five years Co-operative Legal Services, which currently operates out of Bristol employing around 450 staff, would open five additional regional hubs across England and Wales and set up a new family law operation in London later this year.
He also confirmed that the group will extend its trial of legal and funeral planning services through 30 branches of the Co-operative Bank and Britannia to encompass all 330 high street branches.
He said: "We already have a first class reputation for delivering professional services. We see the law as yet another area where a Co-operative solution can be successfully applied for the customer's benefit.
"Over the next five years we want to fundamentally change the face of legal services and make access far easier - today's announcement underlines that ambition.
"We intend to be totally customer focused and will help customers navigate the legal world so that they are much more comfortable with the experience and the outcomes.
"It is envisaged that about 90% of the roles being created will be actual legal functions, with 10% made up of support staff.
"We are particularly keen to use our expansion as a way to offer opportunities to young people. Legal apprenticeships and opportunities for study leave will form an important part of this major employment opportunity."

At 5.1 pounds, it may not be the lightest 14-incher around, but it packs some of the most robust internals in its class. Less forgivable, though, is the notebook's middling 1366 x 768 display; when you have that graphics oomph, you want the high-res visuals to match. Which Spam Filter Is Best For You?

With the number of spam filtering solutions increasing each week it?s getting tougher for consumers to make informed choices in their purchases.
There are 3 basic types of spam filters:
Integrated
Standalone
Online
We?ll look at each type of spam filter and at the end you should be able to decide what spam filter is right for you.
Integrated spam filters
This type of spam filtering software is the most common. Once installed it sits ?on top? of your existing email software and installs a new set of buttons into your email software. In future when you collect email you?ll see options for marking email as Spam, marking the email as Not Spam, Bounce the email back to sender, etc. The description and position of these buttons varies from one product to the next but their purpose remains the same.
Most integrated spam filters automatically place suspected junk email into a separate folder on your PC for you to review or delete later on.
The newer integrated spam filters are also ?intelligent?. They can basically learn the difference between what is spam and what is not and delete the junk email you don?t want.
The most popular integrated spam filters are:
iHate Spam
Spambully
Spam Inspector
Integrated spam filters are most popular amongst people who want a one click solution to collecting their personal email and filtering junk email at the same time.
Advantages:
One click solution.
Disadvantages:
Software specific. Some work with Outlook and Outlook Express only.
Standalone spam filters
These are less common than their integarted counterparts but that doesn?t make them any less useful. A standalone spam filter is basically a separate piece of software installed on your PC that you use to check your email for spam.
Standalone filters have the big advantage of being able to preview your email on the mail server before it?s downloaded to your PC. This one single feature has the huge benefit of allowing you to just download the email that you want as opposed to downloading all of your email, including the spam, and then sorting through it.
Using a standalone spam filter is a little more work simply because it?s a separate piece of software that you have to run before you open up your email software. Most standalone filters do allow you to configure them so that your standard email application is opened once you?ve chosen what spam to filter. This suits some people and not others.

Advantages:
Doesn?t rely on specific email applications to work properly.
Disadvantages:
Two step process. Load standalone filter and then your email application.
Online spam filters
There are really two types of online spam filters. One is for business use and one is for home use. A typical example of a business type product is iHate Spam server edition where the software deletes junk email directly from the mail server before the end user even sees it. Large companies employ this type of technology.
Home users will be using Spam Arrest or similar. Spam Arrest offers an inventive solution to spam whereby any email sent to the users account has a challenge request sent back to it which the sender must authenticate. The automatic junk email software used by spammers can?t currently deal with this type of response. Any failure to authenticate the challenge email results in the junk email being left to die in cyberspace. A user is authenticated with Spam Arrest only once for security just to make sure the software doesn?t become a nuisance.

Advantages:
Users are guaranteed to only receive the email that they want or requested.
Disadvantages:
Any techncial problems with the Spam Arrest server and you have no defense against spam.

This is my wife. Her name is Keshia but I call her Keshy, or Kesh.
On my about page, I didn't write about me - I wrote about her. I believe that we are who we are because of the people in our lives. Kesh can help you to know me better than I can.
Thirty six weeks ago, we found out we were having a baby. We'd waited for Kesh to finish the practical component of her Fine Arts degree and after a few months of trying, we still weren't pregnant. Kesh had taken so many pregnancy tests, I'd lost count and a little bit of faith.
We decided we would get some help to conceive but needed to take one more test to make sure Kesh wasn't pregnant. We were heading back home after shooting up the coast. We called in to Kesh's family home and realised we were alone...
I heard a scream from the bathroom and I knew it was different this time. In that instant, I knew.
I made a conscious decision to continue sharing our lives, and this part of it, on the blog. Every week, you've seen Kesh and our baby grow. Every week, I've spoken about this little family. I have felt so strongly to thank you, the beautiful reader, for every comment and kind word you have sent to us.
We have our fingers crossed that this is the last shoot in this series. If it is, the next images you see from me will be from the birth of our baby.
Over the last few weeks, I've had a few comments from people saying things like?I love the way you love Kesh. For me, loving Kesh isn't even a decision. I cannot not love her. I feel like I was created with the purpose of loving her.
There was a time in my life where I didn't think I would be a husband or a father. Darker times, where I found myself in places I shouldn't be. There was a blinding light though, shining on me. Dark and light can't be in the same place. It's not possible.
I hope that this blog can become a place of light and hope...in you and in life. Life is a miracle. You can see it, right there, in the first image.
I'm a photographer who wants to celebrate life. More than that, I'm a husband and a father who loves his wife and baby.

Linux Mint 13 'Maya' released, just in time for the next piktun
Linux comes in all sorts of flavors -- it's part of what makes the OS so confusing to new comers. To make matters worse, some of the most popular variants are actually based on other distros, such as Linux Mint, the refreshing desktop that's based largely on Ubuntu. So, if you're wondering what's new in the Mint 13, a good place to start is probably our review of the aubergine OS. Of course, Maya has a few wrinkles of its own -- including a pair of desktop options dubbed MATE and Cinnamon. MATE, as you may recall, was introduced in the last version, but Cinnamon is all new (read: a tad unstable) and built on a modern framework using Gnome 3 and Clutter. There have been a few other new additions, including a new display manager in MDM and a switch to Yahoo! as the default search engine. As usual with these things, you can download it and try it out for free at the source.
