3D printing takes centre stage at London?s Science Museum

An exhibition dedicated to showcasing the latest innovations in 3D printing is to open at the London Science Museum between 9 October and 10 February.

Called '3D: Printing the Future', the exhibition will feature contributions from a number of leading companies in the rapid prototyping space, including Stratasys, and will explore the entire process of 3D printing - from scanning right through to the production of 3D models.

As well as 3D printed miniature models of London Science Museum visitors, the exhibition will feature Pneuma 2, a 3D printed sculpture inspired by the human lung designed by Professor Neri Oxman.

The intricate piece combines a number of different material properties, 3D printed with Stratasys' PolyJet technology. The sculpture is one of 18 'beings' featured in Oxman's collection, each of which personifies a particular human function.

"It is gratifying to see 3D printing featured so prominently by one of the world's great science museums," said Arita Mattsoff, vp marketing, Stratasys. "Every day we are discovering exciting new applications for 3D printing. We hope that many visitors will take advantage of this opportunity to experience this amazing technology."
