We have all heard that the effects of depression include body aches and pains, loss of appetite, and loss of interest in things a person used to enjoy. New studies are finding that depression also has a huge impact on heart health, showing that depression increases your chances of heart disease by an astounding 65 percent!

Because of these staggering percentages, The World Health Organization is forecasting that heart disease will be the most debilitating illness by the year 2010. They state that this is only second to depression. They are asking the medical community to look further into treating both the body and the mind to break this trend. This is also a question being asked by the Cleveland Clinic. They are trying to determine which comes first ? depression or heart disease.

Whatever the order or the two diseases, they all agree that the combination is damaging. It has long been known that depression is a huge concern for patients after being diagnosed with heart disease. More than smoking, cholesterol issues, and high blood pressure, Duke University Researchers found that depression is responsible for death due to heart failure in patients who suffer from depression, as much as 50% higher.

At the University of Wisconsin Madison, Kenneth Robbins, M.D., who is a psychiatry professor, has concluded that a person who suffers from depression has a four fold chance of dying after a first heart attack in the six months following. He explains that depression makes people sick in many ways, and sicker if they are already sick, though there is no clear comprehension as to why this happens.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with depression prior to, or after being diagnosed with heart disease, work closely with your doctor to address the depression. There are many therapies available today for treatment. Treating your mind and body together will alleviate your chances of suffering any of the risks discussed.

Go forth and Tweet! Pope sees web networks as "portals of truth"

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict urged Catholics on Thursday to use social networks like Twitter and Facebook to win converts, as he launched his own smartphone app streaming live footage of his speeches.

The websites - often associated with endless postings of idle gossip and baby photos - could be used as "portals of truth and faith" in an increasingly secular age, the pontiff said in his 2013 World Communications Day message.

"Unless the Good News is made known also in the digital world, it may be absent in the experience of many people," the 85-year old Pope said in the a letter published on the Vatican's website.

The Holy See has become an increasingly prolific user of social media since it launched its 'new evangelization' of the developed world, where some congregations have fallen in the wake of growing secularization and damage to the Church's reputation from a series of sex abuse scandals.

The Pope himself reaches around 2.5 million followers through eight Twitter accounts, including one in Latin.

Belying his traditionalist reputation, the Pope praised connections made online which he said could blossom into true friendships. Online life was not a purely virtual world but "increasingly becoming part of the very fabric of society," he said.

Social networks were also a practical tool that Catholics could use to organize prayer events, the pope suggested. But he called for reasoned debate and respectful dialogue with those with different beliefs, and cautioned against a tendency towards "heated and divisive voices" and "sensationalism".

The websites were creating a new "agora", he added, referring to the gathering spaces that were the centers of public life in ancient Greek cities.

The speech coincided with the launch of 'The Pope App', a downloadable program that streams live footage of the pontiff's speaking events and Vatican news onto smartphones.

Pope Benedict's embrace of new media responds to the Church's concern that it is invisible on the internet.

The Vatican commissioned a study of internet use and religion prior to the pope's Twitter debut, which found the majority of U.S. Catholics surveyed were unaware of any significant Church presence online.

Sony fined in UK over PlayStation cyberattack

LONDON (AP) ? British regulators fined Sony 250,000 pounds ($396,100) on Thursday for having insufficient security measures to prevent a cyberattack on its PlayStation Network.

The attack in April 2011 targeted credit card information through Sony's PlayStation Network and put millions of users' personal information ? including names, addresses, birth dates and account passwords ? at risk.

Britain's Information Commissioner's Office said Thursday that security measures in place at the time "were simply not good enough." It said the attack could have been prevented if software had been up to date, while passwords were also not secure.

David Smith, deputy commissioner and director of data protection, acknowledged that the fine for a "serious breach of the Data Protection Act" was "clearly substantial" but said that the office makes "no apologies" for that.

"There's no disguising that this is a business that should have known better," he said in a statement. "It is a company that trades on its technical expertise, and there's no doubt in my mind that they had access to both the technical knowledge and the resources to keep this information safe."

Smith called the case "one of the most serious ever reported" to the data regulator.

I have found the most magical, enchanting resort in the Northeast. A resort designed as a return to the Adirondack Great Camp, nestled in the woodlands surrounding Lake Placid, New York.?

There is something to be said about atmosphere and The Whiteface Lodge?is one of the most atmospheric resorts you will ever experience.

Between the majestic Adirondack landscape and the rustic timber design, The Whiteface Lodge will leave you breathless.?

My partner and I had the pleasure of experiencing this resort in early December, which only adds to its fairy-tale allure.?

Decked out in holiday decor, complete with Christmas trees large enough to make Clark Griswold jealous, the resort gleamed with twinkling lights, red bows and the scent of fresh pine and wood burning fireplaces.

The ambiance and musical sounds of holiday classics playing softly in the hotel?s lobby would make even the Grinch want to sip hot cocoa and don his favorite ski sweater!

As a person who truly appreciates each and every detail of a place, my senses were completely overjoyed.?

The Whiteface?Lodge embodies every image one associates with the Adirondacks.?

Your experience begins the second you pull up and are greeted by the friendly valet attendants.

As you walk toward the main entrance you can?t help but feel a sense of excitement take over.

This excitement is founded because the second you step inside I assure you that a permanent smile will appear, well, until you have to leave that is (but hey, cheer up, you can always return)!?

Our check-in process was smooth and informative and before we knew it we were heading to our superior suite, room # 122.?

?

I always feel like a kid on Christmas morning as I get ready to enter a hotel room. ?Here goes,? I said to my partner, Jennifer!?

The suite was absolutely gorgeous with plushly furnished, handcrafted Adirondack-style furnishings.

The superior suite measures approx 600-700 square feet. It offers two rooms, a separate bedroom and living room.

The bedroom features an elegant king bed while the living room provides a queen sleeper sofa. The bathroom has a jetted tub / rain head shower combination.?

?

There was a full kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and utensils.?

Another fantastic, and much appreciated amenity, is the in-room washer/dryer.?

?

Some personal favorites were the cast-iron (gas) fireplace and private cedar-mahogany deck entrance from the living room.?

?

?

Oh, and did I mention the bathroom has radiant-heat flooring? Oh. Yes.?

?

There were plush, terry cloth robes laid out on our bed and 2 giant chocolate-chip cookies on a nightstand.?

Also provided was a list of activities / events planned at the resort that day.

?

Jen and I decided to venture out and tour the premises. We found ourselves in their family room, complete with a movie theater and 2-lane bowling alley (yes, a bowling alley)!?

The resort is over-flowing with amenities including the above mentioned family room which also has billiards, shuffleboard, air hockey and foosball tables.?

?

There is a year-round, heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub,

56-seat-surround-sound movie theater,

nightly ?experience the lodge? bonfire with s?mores from 7-10 PM, live music in the KANU Lounge, fine dining at the premier KANU Restaurant, The Spa at Whiteface Lodge, state-of-the-art health & fitness center

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Beyonce drew a loud cheer from the audience Monday even before her impressive rendition of the national anthem.

The applause started when she took her place with Jay-Z at the Capitol to watch President Barack Obama take the oath for his second term in office. The two stopped to chat with the Rev. Al Sharpton.

James Taylor kicked off the musical performances, strumming his guitar and singing "America the Beautiful." Kelly Clarkson followed with an unusual arrangement of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." Then Beyonce was introduced and the crowd again roared its approval.

The pop goddess may have been the star musical attraction, but she had plenty of company from Hollywood at the Capitol on Monday. Katy Perry and John Mayer sat side-by-side, with Perry in an orange-striped coat and wide hat.

Actress Eva Longoria was seated on the platform outside the Capitol after making an appearance at a Kennedy Center performance Sunday night. (Perry sang the night before, at the children's concert.)

Former Boston Celtics great Bill Russell was in the crowd, too, along with actor Marlon Wayans.
