UFC FN 32: Belfort Not Retiring Anytime Soon

Following Vitor Belfort’s crushing and quick defeat to Anderson Silva over two years ago, there likely was more than a few people who closed the book on “The Phenom’s” championship aspirations. Now, as Belfort’s November 9th bout with Dan Henderson approaches, however, the middleweight could be one win away from fighting for the title again. The punishing striker has proven his critics wrong, and has done so at the age of 36.

While plenty of fighters start thinking about winding down their careers once they hit their mid-30′s, Belfort recently told MMA Junkie.com that he could see himself fighting for many more years. While discussing his future, the Brazilian star stated:

“I believe in joy,” said Belfort. “When I step into the octagon and I don’t feel the pleasure and I don’t feel the adrenaline and the purpose, I think it will be time to stop.

“I made a plan to go into my 40s, so that’s kind of the plan. So I like to plan things. I believe the more you plan, the more you succeed.”

Of course, one could argue that Belfort might change his mind, especially if he loses a couple of fights and falls out of title contention. Not surprisingly, it sounds like the Blackzilians fighter understands all that.

“Of course, things can change,” Belfort said. “I’m very open. God will tell me what I have to do, and he will prepare what I have next for me. I love business, and fighting is a business for me. You can only work at things you can have pleasure and appreciation (for), to wake up every day and work hard.”

Belfort’s upcoming bout with Henderson is such an interesting one, not only because of each man’s resume and abilities, but because it means so much. While Belfort hopes to retain a title shot at 185, win or lose versus Henderson (the fight’s at 205), there’s a good chance he won’t face the winner of Weidman-Silva II if he’s defeated. And for the 43 year-old “Hendo”, a third consecutive loss would be a huge blow, even if his last two scraps have been extremely competitive.

UFC FN 32 will go down in Goiana, Brazil, and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1. Stay tuned to MMA Frenzy.com for all your UFC news and coverage.

Obama pitches the US to foreign investors

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is casting himself as America's business pitchman.

Facing a sluggish economy, Obama on Thursday announced an expanded government role to draw foreign companies to the United States, arguing that the American workforce, cheaper energy costs and an improving economy make the U.S. an attractive home for investments.

"Officials at the highest levels, up to and including me, are going to do even more to make the case for investing in America," Obama told a summit of investors, business CEOs and state and local officials.

Obama said the goal is to make that outreach more efficient, making better use of the federal government to promote the U.S. overseas, a job that had previously been left primarily to states and cities, which had to compete against foreign countries to attract foreign investors.

Using a salesman's delivery, Obama told the SelectUSA 2013 Investment Summit: "So, to all the business leaders here today, and around the world, we want to be your partner in helping to write the next chapter in our history."

Obama singled out steps designed to improve the marketing of the United States:

—Attracting foreign investment will be a priority for U.S. ambassadors.

—Giving businesses a single point of contact within the federal government to cut through national, state and local red tape.

—Providing cities, states and regions with research and analysis to help them attract foreign investors.

A new White House economic report says foreign direct investments to the U.S. totaled $166 billion in 2012. The report says most of that investment comes from a small number of industrialized countries.

Obama said some U.S. based firms are bringing back some of their foreign-based operations, singling out Ford Motor Co. and Caterpillar Inc. among them.

Where Monsters Come From, or Bad Paleontology

Where Monsters Come From, or Bad Paleontology

Ancient myths of dragons, titans, and giants—inhuman creatures battling it out on an alien earth before mankind—are easy enough to find. Seemingly every culture has them. What's perhaps more surprising is that many of these tales of deformed and monstrous beings, whether terrifying dragons or beneficent heroes armed for battle, often resulted from a misunderstanding of the fossil record.
