Japanese a multi-format in-store retailer Aeon has reported a 9.1% increase in nine-month (March-November) operating profit to JPY101.82bn (1.32bn), compared to JPY93.4bn ($1.21bn) in the corresponding period last year.
The supermarket chain's net profit during the nine-month period fell by 25.6% to JPY36.54bn ($473.8bn), compared to JPY49.1bn (636.67m) in the same period a year earlier.
Revenue was almost unchanged at JPY3.75 trillion ($48.62bn) from JPY3.73 trillion ($48.36bn) a year earlier, while operating profit rose 9.1% to JPY101.82bn (1.32bn) from Y93.4bn a year earlier.
For its business year to February 2012, Aeon kept its operating-profit outlook at JPY195bn to JPY205bn.
China-based Aeon is a group of 180 companies and has operations in Japan, South East Asia and China.
The company operates general merchandise stores, supermarkets, specialty stores, boutiques, drug stores and convenience stores through its subsidiaries, in addition to shopping malls.
