Atopic dermatitis, more commonly known as eczema, is a skin condition wherein the skin is unable to keep its moisture and develops to become flaky and dry. Every year, it is estimated that about 15 million suffer from this skin condition. More often, this skin condition starts in the early childhood, during the time when the skin is still tender. On the onset of the disease, the skin starts to itch a lot and red patches will start to develop all over the affected area. The condition of the eczema is further aggravated through scratching the skin.
Atopic dermatitis can be rarely treated entirely, although it is possible to manage the disease through the aid of specific medications. These medication compliments the skin?s moisture and keep it well hydrates. They also lessen the swelling and inflammation that results from the skin condition. Corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone for eczema can alleviate the symptoms of the skin disorder. While there could be some benefits when using hydrocortisone for eczema, there may also some side effects.
